About 11 Lee Centre Drive — May Tower II Condos
When Ziedler Partnership Architects and Page + Steele Inc. teamed up with May Tower Developments Ltd. to create the May Tower II Condos, both the developers and the architects put careful consideration into the most minute of details. Completed in 2002, 11 Lee Centre Drive rises to 24 storeys and contains 271 Toronto condos.
Between the impressive lobby, with its black-and-white marble tiles and opulent red carpeting, and the amenities shared with its sister building, May Tower I Condos at 1 Lee Centre Drive, it’s clear that neither comfort nor class have been overlooked. The building even maintains an active website, allowing residents to keep up to date on news and events.
When we mentioned amenities, we weren’t kidding around. The common spaces at 11 Lee Centre Drive are pretty impressive, with residents able to keep active, unwind, and host friends and family, all without having to leave the building. Those living in the May Tower II have access to an indoor pool, hot tub, and his and hers saunas, as well as a gym that’s spread out over two storeys and contains badminton and basketball courts. There’s also ping pong and mah jong equipment, a library, two guest suites, and an outdoor playground. And just for good measure, there’s a party room in each of the May Tower buildings.
The Suites
While western condo dwellers are accustomed to buildings that skip the 13th floor, 11 Lee Centre Dr takes this superstition a step further: step into the elevator and you’ll quickly notice there are no buttons for level 4, 14, and 24. This is because of a Chinese belief the number four is unlucky, since the word ‘four’ and the word ‘death’ sound alike in Mandarin.
Superstition aside, prospective residents might opt for one floor over another for an entirely different reason. While the building typically contains 13 units per floor, the top three levels are slightly quieter, with only 8 homes on each of these floors.
Condo seekers interested in Toronto condos for sale at 11 Lee Centre Dr can expect to find one bedroom, one bedroom plus den, and two bedroom homes, some of which boast pass-through kitchens and views of the lake. And while there are no balconies to be found in the building, the architects made up for this by providing every home with large, bright windows.
The Neighbourhood
Woburn is a large, mixed-use Scarborough neighbourhood that contains a good mix of both residential and commercial pockets. And although it’s located just outside the western border of Woburn, residents of 11 Lee Centre Dr benefit from being able to walk to the nearby Scarborough Town Centre. In addition to the usual specialty and fashion stores, this large mall is also home to a Walmart and a Cineplex movie theatre.
Those who aren’t fans of Walmart can get their grocery shopping done at Freshco or Real Canadian Superstore, both of which are situated around the corner from 11 Lee Centre Drive. Better yet, residents have access to a number of supermarkets that sell goods imported from India, such as Panchvati and Royal Kerala Foods.
Transportation
Whether residents prefer to drive or sit back and enjoy a ride on the TTC, getting around the city is easy with an address like 11 Lee Centre Dr. McCowan station on the Scarborough subway line takes just 15 minutes to reach, plus the 9 Bellamy bus stops right outside the building before making its way toward Warden station on the Bloor-Danforth line.
Drivers are also in luck, as the 401 is within close reach of 11 Lee Centre Dr. This major highway can be reached by driving north along McCowan or Markham Road, and is useful for reaching destinations throughout Scarborough, North York, and Mississauga.
