About 33 Mill Street — Pure Spirit Lofts
The Pure Spirit Lofts and Condos is one of those buildings that was able to break the mold. The residential high-rise at 33 Mill Street was the first of its kind in the Distillery District, an area that has been inhabited by smaller structures since 1832.
Located amidst North America’s largest group of preserved Victorian architecture, the red brick podium of the Pure Spirit Lofts and Condos manages to fit in nicely with its neighbours. Groups of windowpanes are clustered together in a warehouse-like manner, while historical photographs and artifacts in the lobby are surefire reminders of the area’s past. Look up, however, and it’s hard not to notice the modern, gleaming glass tower, hovering above.
CityScape Development Corp. clearly understood the increasing popularity of the Distillery District—as a neighbourhood rather than simply a tourist attraction — when they decided to place 380 downtown Toronto condos here back in 2009. As a result, the 33-storey structure was named one of the top 10 Toronto buildings from the last 15 years by BlogTO.
Beyond the building’s well contrasted appearance and historical locale, the amenities at the Pure Spirit Lofts and Condos are yet another selling point for prospective buyers interested in the building. Residents can enjoy spending time in (or around) the outdoor pool and hot tub, which also happens to share the outdoor common space with barbecues and a garden.
Inside, a gym, sauna, party room with kitchen, games room, and three guest suites are available for use by residents. The building also boasts visitor parking and a concierge, as well as a very pet friendly attitude.
Its no wonder empty nesters and retirees who need lots of entertainment to fill their time are drawn to the Pure Spirit Lofts and Condos. Professionals working nearby are yet another key demographic found living at 33 Mill Street, while it is also an ideal spot for those without a car — or those who prefer not to use them for inner-city driving.
The Suites
Toronto condos for sale at 33 Mill Street range not only in size and exposure, but in style as well. As the name of the building suggests, both condos and lofts can be found here, with homes spanning either one storey or two.
And while the homes span from around 450 to 2,650 square feet, this largest unit is the exception rather than the rule: this home is the result of one owner combining three units into one, and ensuring that the kitchen be equipped with a 12-foot long, granite-clad island.
Certain features allow these homes to stand out from the crowd, such as wooden sliding doors and high ceilings that reach to 9 or 10 feet. Exposed concrete ceilings and terraces or balconies can be found in some of the homes at 33 Mill Street, with floor-to-ceiling windows making regular appearances as well.
The Neighbourhood
While the Historic Distillery District has become one of Toronto’s foremost tourist destinations in recent years, it has also grown in popularity for locals looking for a charming and trendy place to live.
Just outside the front doors of the Pure Spirit Lofts and Condos, residents will find an array of bars, galleries, boutiques, cafés, restaurants, and even theatres, all set amongst an important piece of Toronto’s past. Cobblestone streets set the area apart from the rest of Toronto, while modern businesses keep the area alive and thriving.
Surrounding areas are just as charming for residents living at 33 Mill Street. Restaurants and bars along the Esplanade are great for date night, while having St. Lawrence Market within walking distance is never a bad thing.
Those who love to spend time in the great outdoors will love living so close to Lake Ontario, as well as numerous green spaces. Corktown Common, Leslie Spit, and the Don Valley Trails are all large enough outdoor spaces to let oneself get lost in for an entire day.
Transportation
After a short walk north, residents will land themselves on King Street, where streetcars heading east and west pass frequently. Buses also make stops at the Distillery Loop, near Tank House Lane and Cherry Street. Also at this intersection is a Bike Share Toronto Station, for those who prefer to get exercise as they travel.
Drivers can use larger thoroughfares such as the Don Valley Parkway or the Gardiner Expressway to get to wherever they need to go. Alternatively, King West is great for exploring the city from east to west, while Parliament will come in handy for those traveling north or south.
