About 183 Wellington Street W — Residences of The Ritz Carlton
First there are condos built within hotels, and then there are the Residences of the Ritz Carlton. And in terms of condo living, it doesn’t get all that much more luxurious than this.
The 52-storey mixed-use structure at 183 Wellington Street West serves two purposes: to pamper its star-studded lineup of hotel guests, and to please its long-term residents. Built in 2011, the building manages to feel exclusive regardless of its size, since only 158 King West condos are actually available for purchase here.
The first 20 floor make up the Ritz Carlton Toronto hotel, with the residences located above. Thankfully, the building has a separate entrance just for residents — especially handy for when paparazzi are outside the hotel lobby, waiting for Benedict Cumberbatch to leave for the day.
For those who prefer to stay away from the spotlight, there's plenty of separation between residents and hotel guests. For example, the lounge and terrace on the 21st storey is only for homeowners living at the Residences of the Ritz Carlton Condos.
However, when residents decide they do want celebrity sightings in their lives, they will simply need to head over to the hotel lounge, known as DEQ.
Toronto condos for sale at 183 Wellington Street have attracted many buyers who work in the financial field, perhaps because they are so large and luxurious and one needs that kind of salary to be able to afford a place here.
Residents who do decide to shell out the cash for a spot in the building also benefit from hotel-style perks, such as room service, a cleaning service, 24-hour valet, a spa and pool, and of course a colossal ballroom.
Friends of residents are in luck as well, thanks to the guest suites available to owners. But the amenities don’t stop there: residents also have access to a concierge, visitor parking, gym, party room, sauna, cinema room, and meeting room, as well as direct access to the PATH and subway.
The Suites
With units starting at approximately 1,200 square feet, there are no small spaces at 183 Wellington Street West. In fact, these downtown Toronto condos range from comfortable to colossal, with the largest homes in the building spanning around 11,000 square feet.
Sometimes, one’s location within a building makes all the difference. At the Residences of the Ritz Carlton, units that grace the uppermost levels afford their residents clear views of the CN Tower and Lake Ontario, with corner units boasting panoramic vistas of the city below. Some might want to invest in a pair of binoculars, since they will be able to see right into the Rogers Centre — when the dome is open of course.
While floor-to-ceiling windows can be found throughout the homes at 138 Wellington West, even large and luxurious suites don’t necessarily come with private outdoor spaces. For this reason, those who love spending time outdoors will need to head over to the residents’ lounge for sunbathing or dining al fresco.
Unsurprisingly, these homes are finished with elegant materials like hardwood and marble. Elegant kitchens, massive bedrooms, and high ceilings can also be expected in all units. Homes start with two bedrooms and only grow from there, with one spectacular condo boasting 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a library, and 2 parking spaces.
The Neighbourhood
Residents living at 183 Wellington Street West better love city life, because it doesn’t really get more central than this.
And they don’t call it the Entertainment District for nothing: the attractions surrounding the Residences of the Ritz Carlton are so abundant they are hard to count. Within a short walk, residents can reach the Rogers Centre and the Scotiabank Arena for concerts and sporting events, the CN Tower, the Ripley’s Aquarium, and the Harbourfront Centre and Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery.
For more refined evenings on the town, those living at 183 Wellington West can head up to King Street for a live show at the Royal Alexandra or Princess of Wales Theatre, or a Toronto Symphony Orchestra performance at Roy Thompson Hall.
When the pantry is running low, residents can head over to the Longo’s Maple Leaf Square, which takes around 10 minutes to reach on food. A little farther off — but worth the trek for its quality — is the Saks Food Hall by Pusateri’s, located at the corner of Queen and Yonge.
Green spaces are also abundant, with Roundhouse Park, HTO Park, Clarence Square Park, and David Pecaut Square all within walking distance of 183 Wellington Street West.
Transportation
For those who prefer to forgo driving — and therefore the all too common downtown traffic jams — the subway is thankfully just around the corner. The PATH provides residents with direct access to the subway, and also acts as a way to get around the city on foot without having to go outside.
St. Andrew Station takes about 6 minutes to reach, with a trip to Union Station taking just a few minutes more. From either of these, subway trains heading north or south will transport travelers to numerous areas around the city.
Drivers can quickly hop onto the Gardiner Expressway, making a ride east or west as painless as can be.
